Where art and curation
converge

To create The Becoming Mom Edition, we joined forces with artist Antoinette Janssen. As a mother of two, we asked her to create an abstract artwork depicting the connection between mother and child. You can now admire this special handiwork on our latest Skins Box.

About Antoinette

After a career in art discouraged her at a young age, she chose a different path. Around the age of 40, she picked up her brushes again and decided to pursue her dream. At art school, she (re)discovered a passion for painting poses and postures. From her studio, she creates beautiful works that honour the human body in various forms.

Her inspiration

Antoinette Janssen: "For this work, I started from the cocoon, also known as the wire spider, which protects the foetus, keeps it warm and offers it a place to grow. The foetus lies wrapped in threads, as it were, in spins. These form the connection with mother and the outside world. Even before birth, they transmit the warmth of a touch or the softness of a whisper."

The creation process

For her art, Antoinette chooses a form of mixed media called mixed media. The work on The Becoming Mom Edition has a base of warm-coloured and transparent inks to colour the paper. She then used fineliners and markers to apply the spins. The artwork is done in earthy colours to express the natural process of becoming a mother.
