THE PLUM AS A POWERFUL SKINCARE INGREDIENT
Clean beauty brand Le Prunier shares their vision on sun protection and skin recovery.
At the end of the summer, your skin tells the story of everything you've experienced. With the right aftercare, you can carry these skin stories with you for a long time. We spoke to Allison and Jacqueline from Le Prunier about the power of the plum and their vision on skincare before, during, and after sun exposure. Additionally, they explain how Le Prunier's products protect, repair, and make your skin glow (again).
How and when did you discover the – then unknown – power of the plum?
[Jacqueline] We began research on the superfood benefits of the dried plum in 2016. We had a hunch there would be an array of benefits since dried plums contain some of the highest amounts of antioxidants of any fruits or vegetables, even more so than kale, spinach, and blueberries. Lo and behold, after years of research, we discovered plum pits, and so also our Plum Beauty Oil, turned out to be rich in antioxidants and polyphenols. Plus, it is non-comedogenic, making it ideal for acne-prone skin and helping with hyperpigmentation. We were so excited to learn the results and begin sharing the Plum Beauty Oil with the world.
Why is the plum the ultimate superfood for your skin?
[Allison] Plums are an incredibly antioxidant rich superfood. Most people don’t realise dried plums have more antioxidants than kale, blueberries, and spinach. In addition to this, they’re incredible for bone health, heart health, cholesterol management, improving digestion and a wonderful source of vitamins and nutrients. We knew the seeds of this wonder fruit, which were previously being discarded, must be incredibly beneficial for the skin as well. After testing our cold-pressed plum for 2.5 years, we discovered our proprietary blend of Plum Beauty Oil was an absolute skincare powerhouse boasting polyphenols, omega fatty acids, pro-vitamin A and vitamin B, and extremely gentle yet powerful.
How has this form of 'upcycling' influenced the development of your products?
[Allison] Upcycling is core to our business and family brand. Plum Beauty Oil is 100% derived from upcycled plum kernels which were previously a waste product on Le Prunier’s family farm and can be found in all of Le Prunier’s products. We’ve committed to eliminating waste by discovering innovative and sustainable plum-based ingredients using byproducts from the brand’s 100-year-old organic family farm.
Additionally, Le Prunier’s bottles are 100% recyclable although the brand encourages repurposing. The secondary boxes are decorated using eco-friendly ink, while the corrugated mailers are made from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified board. Le Prunier also recycles all cardboard materials on the family farm.
